These terms govern your use of Sofia, an AI-powered legal assistant operated by iKanisa Ltd ("we", "us", "our").

1. Service Description

Sofia is an AI-powered legal research and document drafting assistant specializing in Rwandan law. The service is provided via web chat at sofia.ikanisa.com.

2. Not Legal Advice

Sofia does not provide legal advice. All information generated by Sofia is for informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and should not be relied upon as a substitute for consultation with a qualified legal professional licensed in Rwanda.

You should always verify any legal information provided by Sofia with a licensed advocate or notary before making legal decisions.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Sofia. By using the service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Sofia for any unlawful purpose or to facilitate illegal activities
• Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or compromise the service's security
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to interact with the service
• Submit personally identifiable information of third parties without their consent

5. Rate Limits & Fair Use

We impose rate limits to ensure fair access for all users. Excessive use may result in temporary restrictions. Paid plans may offer higher limits — details are available within the application.

6. Intellectual Property

Content generated by Sofia is provided for your personal or professional use. You retain rights to your input text. We retain rights to the Sofia service, branding, and underlying technology.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Sofia is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any legal information provided. Rwandan law is subject to change, and AI-generated content may contain errors.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, iKanisa Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Sofia. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. AI Model Disclosure

Sofia is powered by large language model (LLM) technology provided via the OpenClaw AI infrastructure. AI-generated content may contain errors, hallucinations, or outdated information. Rwandan law is subject to change, and AI training data has a knowledge cutoff that may not reflect the most recent legal developments.

Known limitations:

• Sofia covers Rwandan law only — it cannot provide advice on laws of other jurisdictions
• Responses should not be used as the sole basis for legal decisions
• Case law analysis may not include the most recent court decisions
• Tax calculations and regulatory thresholds should be independently verified

10. Scope Limitations

Sofia is designed to assist with:

• Legal research within Rwandan civil, commercial, criminal, and administrative law
• Document drafting (contracts, letters, complaints, motions)
• Case analysis and legal strategy exploration
• Compliance review against Rwandan regulatory requirements

Sofia does not provide advice on family law matters involving minors, criminal defense strategy for ongoing proceedings, or tax optimization schemes.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Sofia after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

12. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Rwanda. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Kigali, Rwanda. This agreement is subject to the Rwanda Data Protection and Privacy Law (Law No. 058/2021).

This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use Sofia.

2. What We Collect

a) Data you provide

• Chat messages: The text you send to Sofia for legal research, drafting, or analysis
• Session identifiers: A random, anonymous session ID to maintain conversation context

b) Data collected automatically

• IP address: Used solely for rate limiting and abuse prevention; not stored persistently
• Basic usage metrics: Request counts and error rates (aggregate, non-personal)

c) Data we do NOT collect

• Names, email addresses, or other personal identifiers (unless you provide them in chat)
• Payment information (handled by third-party processors, if applicable)
• Location data, device identifiers, or tracking cookies

3. How We Use Your Data

• Providing the service: Processing your legal queries and maintaining conversation context
• Security: Rate limiting, abuse detection, and input sanitization
• Improvement: Aggregate, anonymized analytics to improve response quality

4. Data Storage & Retention

Conversation data is stored on our secured servers. Conversations are retained for the duration of your session and may be stored for up to 30 days for quality and debugging purposes, after which they are automatically deleted.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data Localization & Cross-Border Transfer

Our primary servers are hosted on infrastructure provided by reputable cloud service providers. In accordance with Rwanda's Data Protection and Privacy Law (Law No. 058/2021), where data is processed outside Rwanda, we ensure that adequate safeguards and contractual protections are in place, including:

• Data processing agreements with all third-party processors
• Transfer impact assessments for cross-border data flows
• Encryption of data in transit and at rest

6. Consent

By using Sofia, you explicitly consent to the collection and processing of your data as described in this policy. You may withdraw your consent at any time by ceasing use of the service and contacting us to request deletion of any stored data.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
• Input sanitization to prevent injection attacks
• Rate limiting to prevent abuse
• Access controls on server infrastructure

8. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

• Access: Request information about the data we hold about your sessions
• Deletion: Request deletion of your conversation data
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Portability: Receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
• Objection: Object to processing of your data

10. Breach Notification

• Notify affected individuals without undue delay if the breach is likely to result in a high risk
• Document all breaches and remedial actions taken

11. Third-Party Services

Sofia uses the OpenClaw AI infrastructure to process queries. Your messages are processed by AI models that may be hosted by third-party cloud providers. All processing is subject to our security standards and contractual safeguards.

12. Children's Privacy

Sofia is not intended for use by individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy periodically. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the latest changes were made.
